Mackmyra pastilles - Swedish Oak

Mackmyra Svensk Whisky AB is a pioneering distillery that put Sweden on the world whisky map. The idea was born in 1998 during a ski trip by eight friends from KTH, who started wondering why there was no Swedish single malt. The following year, in 1999, the company was founded – and the rest is Swedish beverage history.

The name Mackmyra comes from the small village outside Gävle where the first distillery was built. Here they began distilling with a focus on local ingredients: Swedish barley, purified water from their own spring, and Swedish oak casks – sometimes even barrels previously used for Swedish berry wine. From the start, the goal was to create a whisky with a distinct Swedish character.

In 2011, Mackmyra took another big step forward with the opening of its gravity distillery – a 35-meter-high tower where gravity aids the production process. The groundbreaking distillery is both an architectural landmark and a symbol of Mackmyra’s environmental awareness and technical innovation.

But Mackmyra is not just whisky. With the same curiosity that drives their distillation, they have also explored other related products – always with a clear connection to the brand:

• Glassware: Mackmyra offers whisky glasses designed to enhance aroma and flavor. These are often developed in collaboration with Swedish glassmakers and maintain high quality in both form and function.
• Pastilles: As a fun detail, Mackmyra has also developed pastilles flavored with notes inspired by their whisky – a playful way to let customers experience their flavors even without alcohol.
• Grill chips: From used whisky barrels, Mackmyra produces grill chips that give food a unique and smoky whisky tone when grilling. A perfect gift for both grill enthusiasts and whisky lovers.
• Tonic by Default: Under the name Tonic by Default, Mackmyra has also created its own tonic, specifically developed to match their gin – which is also produced at the distillery. The tonic is made with the same focus on quality and Swedish ingredients, making it a natural choice for a Swedish gin & tonic.
