It was founded in 1824 by George Smith and became the first legal distillery in Scotland, to the annoyance of its illegal peers. Translated from Gaelic, Glenlivet means "valley of the smooth-flowing one" - a fitting description of this popular and easy-drinking whiskey from Speyside.
